The Bermuda Stock Exchange index closed up 8 points yesterday thanks to a rise in the price of shares at Belco and the Bank of Bermuda.

Belco rose 75 cents to close at $20.00 and Bank of Bermuda 50 cents to finish at $29.00.Bank of Butterfield's shares lost 50 cents to $15,50 and BF&M fell by the same amount to close at $6.75.

The index closed up 8.43 points to 1,435.79 on a volume of 21,000 shares worth $357,442.50.
