weeks to make public his final report on how Bermuda can improve the running of Hamilton docks.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Mr. Roger Sherratt said the Corporation received copies of Mr. Barbera's final report earlier this week and is studying it.

Without going into detail, he said, the comprehensive report contains some "wide-ranging'' recommendations.

"The corporation is very pleased with the thorough way he conducted his inquiry,'' Mr. Sherratt said. "And we look forward to his presentation.'' The corporation, which hired Mr. Barbera as a direct result of labour problems which began in January, 1991, between Stevedoring Services and its unionised workers, invited him back to present his report to the Press and all the groups and individuals he met with while conducting his inquiry.

Hamilton docks were almost brought to a complete standstill last year as a result of a go-slow by workers over an overtime ban and stalled contract talks.

The dispute peaked last summer with truckers refusing to move containers off the docks.

Last August, dock workers were awarded a 13.5 percent pay increase over two years by American arbitrator Mr. Lawrence Seibel who also settled other contract disagreements.

Following the dispute, Mr. Barbera, a senior executive with several transport companies, visited the Island for several weeks to hold private inquiries.
