BII offering disaster seminar

information through a Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) seminar, that organisation announced yesterday.

The BII announced that the half-day disaster recovery seminar, slated for Tuesday, November 1, will review the risk of business failure due to natural or unnatural disasters and help assess how the loss of premises and/or computer systems can affect different types of companies.

"Most managers equate a crisis with bad management and so do not believe it will ever happen to them. Our seminar will address both the need and the challenge of disaster recovery planning,'' said Mr. Paul Rowlerson, seminar chairman.

The seminar's keynote speaker will be Mr. Keith Gibson, director of strategic services for the international accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick. Mr.

Gibson will address the cost of business failure while Mr. Peter Kite of Guy Carpenter, will review what he describes as a "real world example.'' Local speakers will include information technology representatives from Bermuda's utilities.

"The BII's Information Technology Committee, which is organising the meeting, aims to show local companies how contingency planning can not only reduce the impact of disasters but also help quickly restore operations which have been interrupted,'' according to a release.

The seminar will be held at the Hamilton Princess.
