$1,000 fine for cursing at police

A 20-year-old St George’s man who cursed at police was yesterday fined in Magistrates’ Court.Roger Lightbourne Jr admitted using offensive words but told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner he felt harassed by police.Crown counsel Maria Sofianos said police were called to Bermuda Athletic Association field on Woodlands Road, Pembroke, around 9.15pm on Saturday.The officers found no fight, but Lightbourne was pointed out to them by a member of the public.Ms Sofianos said police saw blood on Lightbourne’s mouth, and he became hostile when approached.He told police: “F***k you all, what the f***k you want with me ... f***k you, you’re arresting me because I’m a Lightbourne.”Lightbourne said he had not been fighting and told Mr Warner: “I had my little nephew with me. We were enjoying the game. The police came and I felt I was being harassed. It was nothing personal. All those people were at the game and they came and picked me out.”Mr Warner fined him $1,000, to be paid by March 7.
