Bermuda insurers win awards: PartnerRe and Lehman Re honoured
Two Bermuda companies have won prestigious awards from London-based magazine Review. PartnerRe won for Marketing Campaign of the Year, while Lehman Re's start-up in Bermuda was named Company Launch of the Year. In citing PartnerRe, whose award was collected at a gala affair in London, by C.C. Luthi, Review said: "The acquisition of SAFR and Winterthur Re gave PartnerRe an ideal platform from which to develop its presence in the US. In July 1998, the company announced a number of initiatives to enhance its position in the US and since that time the group has fortified its US operations by increasing its capital to $328 million.'' The citation continued: "In the wake of the two acquisitions, it was important for the company to get across the message that its three units are functioning well together. The judges praised ParterRe for its `concentrated name-building campaign', whose `concise, simple approach deserves significant recognition'.'' Lehman Re began reinsurance operations in Bermuda last year. The panel of judges at Review cited Lehman Re for Company Launch of the Year by saying: "When something like Lehman re launches, inevitably the detail isn't there because it's there to deal with things as they evolve. They're taking a risk. They've got very clever people there and, if anyone is going to change the face of reinsurance, it's these guys''. Judges for the annual competition were David Corben, a partner at JLT Risk Solutions; Roger Harvey of Moody's Investor Services; Peter Gentile of Gerling Global Financial Products; Richard Hines of A.T. Kearney; Bill Loschert, chairman of ACE Global Capital Markets; Clive O'Connell insurance partner at BLG; and Hady Wakefield, chairman of Guy Carpenter.
