TBI extends free service
TeleBermuda International is to extend its free Internet services in public schools.
Minister of Education Randy Horton, yesterday thanked Gregory Swan, president and chief operating officer of TBI for the company's generosity. He said: "I am pleased and thankful for the level of support the Ministry of Education, Sports and Recreation has received from TeleBermuda International over the last few years. It has definitely been a valuable one. It's no question that technology plays a major role in cultivating our young people to meet the challenges of the future."
TBI has provided free Internet services since 2001, when it donated 6 MB of bandwidth to CedarBridge Academy as the network hub. Internet services were then distributed throughout Bermuda's public schools, with TBI extending the bandwidth to 15 MB. With the addition of another 5MB, this will bring the total to 20 MB.
Mr. Swan said yesterday: "It is our pleasure to continue our partnership with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Recreation with this initiative, which inevitably benefits the entire community. TBI has always been committed to supporting educational programmes which assist in the development and empowerment of all young Bermudians."
