'I thought this only happened in movies'

A Bermudian student was caught up in drama at a New York university when a masked gunman entered the campus.

Last night Jahvon Washington likened yesterday's ordeal at St. John's University to a movie. "A resident came on campus with a gun and George Bush mask and trench coat. Shortly after coming on campus, public safety got him", he told The Royal Gazette.

Mr. Washington said students sent around text messages and voicemails to let others know what was going on.

"The school went into lockdown and nobody could leave campus or come in. You had to stay in your classroom. After that, they moved us to Carnessseca Arena, the sports arena, and we was in lockdown in there until the cops searched the whole campus".

He said no one was allowed to leave for the three hour duration in the arena.

Afterwards, the students evacuated the campus and moved to the streets where they saw multiple news crews.

Mr. Washington added the Police searched for two or three other suspects but found nothing. He said: "The school is in a state of disarray. No one knows if there's gonna be school tomorrow. It's just crazy yo. I thought this just happened in the movies".

St. John's University has about ten Bermudian students.
