when a 62-year-old Pembroke man succumbed to internal injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Pitts Bay Road.

Master carpenter David Masters, of Rockville Lane, was found lying in the street opposite the Bacardi Building at around 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon by an ambulance crew.

He had apparently been involved in a single vehicle accident but, although Police were able to talk with him briefly when he awoke at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, the events leading up to it are still unknown.

Mr. Masters, whose father was the late former United Bermuda Party MP Dr.

William Masters, gave in to serious internal injuries at 5.45 p.m. on Saturday evening.

At the family home yesterday afternoon, Mr. Masters' mother was too upset to give comment.

But his brother Michael told The Royal Gazette that he and the rest of the family were "devastated'' by their loved one's death.

"I guess we are all in a state of shock right now,'' he said. "I mean, he was with us on Saturday morning in an upbeat mood and now he's gone, just like that.'' A father of three and a grandfather, Mr. Masters was described by his brother as a "real family man''.

"He was a great father and real close to his children and grandchildren,'' he said. Mr. Masters also said his brother was "a man's man, with a great sense of humour and spontaneity''.

"He was some one who could always tell a good story.'' In his spare time, Mr. Masters showed himself to be a keen sportsman, his interests lying in both sailing and equestrianism.

"He was very active.'' his brother said, "He enjoyed sailing and had a huge following in show driving.

"He was someone who genuinely enjoyed life.'' Witnesses of the accident and anyone who may have information useful to the investigation is asked to contact P.c.
