Slayton visits school

US Consul General Gregory Slayton called at a school to tell students it's "definitely not cool" to be on the stop list.

Mr. Slayton handed out stickers with the slogan 'Be cool. Don't be a fool. Follow the rules. Stay off the stop list' to pupils at Sandys Secondary Middle School.

"It is really important to get the message across to the young people of Bermuda that it is in their best interests to stay away from crime," said Mr. Slayton.

"Bad behaviour can mean being put on the so-called 'stop list' which could mean a life-long ban on travelling to the United States. That is definitely not cool."

School principal Timothy Jackson said: "Not only have we posted signs throughout the building, we have also discussed in assembly the consequences of criminal behaviour.

"The Consul General's personal appearance this morning made a big impact on the students, allowing them to put a face and a voice behind the stop list campaign."
