Taxi driver, 82, robbed

An 82-year-old taxi driver was robbed by his passenger on Thursday afternoon in the area of Fort Hamilton Drive in Pembroke.

Responding to the incident, Police spoke with the complainant who stated he picked up a fare at around 4.20 p.m. on Front Street, with an unknown man requesting to be taken to Fort Hamilton.

Once the taxi arrived there, the passenger suddenly overpowered the driver after a struggle took place, resulting in the driver falling from the vehicle. The suspect then removed the man's wallet before fleeing the scene on foot.

However, the 82-year-old Pembroke man was not injured. His wallet contained a quantity of cash and the culprit is described as a medium brown-skinned male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds.

He was wearing a multicoloured jacket (mostly red), dark coloured pants, a light coloured baseball cap and was carrying a red duffel bag.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
