Extra Regiment manoeuvres
Fifty Bermuda Regiment recruits have volunteered for extra training this weekend.
Bermuda Regiment's Potential Non-Commissioned Officers' (PNCO) Cadre are participating in their first training weekend.
Members of the PNCO Cadre volunteer for the additional training and commitment over an initial five-month period, culminating in an overseas test exercise in Canada.
Those who pass the rigorous assessment will receive their first stripe as Lance Corporals in July. From there the new junior commanders will have an additional four months of instructor training before being posted into command positions by year end.
This year one third of the recruits volunteered for the Cadre.
The potential commanders will partake in internal security training at Morgan's Point, the former US Naval Annex in Southampton. The manoeuvres will involve blank ammunition, flares and other pyrotechnics.
The public is advised not to be alarmed by noise and light coming from this area throughout the weekend. The training will end on Sunday.
