Fined for possessing cocaine, cannabis

A man was handed a fine and suspended prison sentence after possessing cocaine with intent to supply on May 18.

Marco Lovell, 28, was also found with cannabis on the same date.

Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told Magistrates' Court that Lovell was seen sitting on a wall on Woodland Road, Sandys, by Police. Officers attempted to search him under the Misuse of Drugs Act but he ran off, discarding twists containing the drugs from his pocket as he did so.

The Police caught Lovell and recovered the twists, which amounted to 2.4 grammes of cocaine and 0.91 grammes of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to the offences when he appeared at Magistrates' Court. Ms Burgess told the court Lovell has similar previous convictions.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $1,000 for the cannabis possession and gave him a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

"If you get caught with drugs again, your sentence is likely to be activated," he warned.
