Hospital to hold its 17th Heritage Day parade tomorrow

"Take Me Back to the Good Ol' Days" has been selected as the theme for tomorrow evening's pre-Heritage Day parade at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.

The parade, which began as an alternative for MWI clients unable to attend the official May 24 festivities, is now entering its 17th year and has grown into a popular event in its own right.

This year's parade will include floats as well as Gombeys, majorettes, facepainting and performances from the Bermuda Island Pipe Band and the Maumbli Akoma Dance Company. Approximately 30 clients from the Learning Disability Programme at MWI, as well as clients from community homes, will take part in the parade, dressing up in costumes from the 1940s.

The parade begins at the parking lot for Turning Point and Learning Disability, off Devon Springs Road. Parking will be available at the Elliot School parking lot, The Barn and the Recycling Plant. People wishing to attend are advised that Devon Springs Road will be closed at 6:15 p.m. for the parade's start at 6.30 p.m. Refreshments will be on hand from local vendors.
