Darius Tucker is passionate about serving the people of Hamilton South.
A long-time area resident, Darius has been the United Bermuda Party's branch chairman in Hamilton South for the last four years.
“I know the people of the constituency, and I feel I have something to offer," he says, explaining his transition from party worker to political candidate.
“ "I am an average working person who cares about this community, and I will bring a different point of view to political discussions,” he says. “ I am in touch with the concerns of the people - the grassroots issues - in Hamilton South.”
Darius, who is married with two children, works as the maintenance manager for Wilkinson Estates Limited, leading a staff of eight who are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of some 35 residential and commercial properties.
Upon graduating high school, he learned the carpentry trade under the watchful eye of a master carpenter. Now, Darius wants to create more opportunities for young people to learn a trade.
“ I want to see an apprenticeship programme put in place for young people that provides them with a decent standard of living while they learn a trade,” he says.
“ The National Training Board and the Bermuda College are doing some good work in that area, but I would like to see more. Government could encourage smaller contractors to take on young people as apprentices by giving them tax breaks.”
Every child must be given a chance to fulfill his or her potential. “ The key is reading,” he says. “I want an education system where every child is reading at their grade level. Most of the challenges people face as adults can be handled if they are able to read properly.”
Darius is a member of St. John's AME Church, assists the Elliott School PTA - and can often be found supporting Wolves junior soccer programme in various capacities.

A Plan for Hamilton South
* Improving the safety of residents of Summerhaven by installing flashing warning lights to alert motorists traveling in both directions to watch for wheelchair traffic.
* Installing a life ring at the dock in Devil's Hole to improve safety conditions, particularly for children who attend summer day camp in the area.
* Building a garbage hutch at the entrance to Broken Hill Road so that residents can leave their trash in that location without it being unsightly.
* Constructing dressing rooms and bathrooms at Warrior Park for use by youth football teams and their supporters.
* Working with the Bermuda Police Service to increase police patrols throughout Hamilton South, paying particular attention to preventing day-time break-ins.
* Building a platform overlooking John Smith's Bay beach for use by residents of Summerhaven.
