Bermuda teenager Jones comes 12th in US junior circuit event

Nick Jones produced another creditable performance while competing on the US junior golf circuit in Florida last week.

The Bermudian carded a four-over-par 76 in the final round at the 6,183 yard Venetian Gold and River Club lay-out to finish a respectable 12th among a competitive field of 69 in the 36-hole event.

A three-under 69 the day before had kept Jones (pictured right) in contention, two shots behind the leaders. But bogeys on the last two holes during the final round put a huge dent in the young golfer's title aspirations in the senior boys' division.

The Grandview Preparatory School student had entered the tournament billowing with confidence after placing 33rd in a large and formidable field at the Doral Publix Junior Classic held at the Doral Golf Resort in Florida last month.

Jones also had a strong showing at the Golf Channel Amateur Tour in Orlando last month where he placed third.

The teenaged golfer now has ambitions to cap off his final year of eligibility on the US junior circuit on a high before enrolling in college next fall.
