Fairmont Hamilton seeking new name for wing

The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is inviting submissions in a contest to name its 'Bay Wing', which will undergo extensive renovations beginning next month and will reopen in April next year.

Covering 113 rooms at the historic hotel, the wing was originally built in 1968 and will have a new interior and exterior design upon its reopening.

The hotel's management views the naming contest as an opportunity to involve the community in some of the renovations underway.

Jon Crellin, general manager for the hotel, said: "In September, when we held our historical tours of the hotel, it became very clear to us just how close this hotel is to the hearts of many Bermudians."

Those entering the contest should suggest names that reflect a Bermudian theme, however, the company said the wing will not be named after an individual.

Entries are being accepted now through November 30 and may be submitted to the hotel by emailing hamilton[AT]fairmont.com or by postal mail to PO Box HM 837, Hamilton HM CX.

At the end of the contest, a judging panel from the hotel will choose the winning name from among contest entries. The winning name will be announced on January 7, 2008.

And, the winner will receive a free weekend stay for two in the newly redesigned wing, dinner for two at Harley's, afternoon tea in the Heritage Court and Sunday brunch at Harley's.

In addition, they will be a special guest at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the wing.

The Bay Wing renovation is the first in a multiphased refurbishment of the 122-year-old hotel.
