Phoenix CEO leaves Corporation

George Grundmuller

Corporation of Hamilton common councillor George Grundmuller is stepping down for business reasons.

Mr. Grundmuller, who is CEO of Phoenix stores, told The Royal Gazette: "I just cannot find the time any more. My decision is based on having a growing workload and additional responsibilities."

Mr. Grundmuller, who joined the Corporation in 2003, declined to be drawn on controversy surrounding City Hall.

Recently it emerged councillors had again called for Mayor Sutherland Madeiros to resign.

Mr. Grundmuller said: "I don't want to comment on that. I always thought the Corporation of Hamilton is a great institution."

In 2006, Mr. Grundmuller was one of six members who signed a letter demanding Mr. Madeiros' resignation after the results of the election which brought him to power were questioned by his unsuccessful opponent Sonia Grant.

Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Kelly Miller said a date for a by-election is likely to be decided when the Corporation next meets.
