Motorist fined, banned from the roads

A carpenter was banned from the road after admitting drinking and driving.Christopher Matos, 28, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to driving while impaired in an incident on December 16.The court heard that at around 1.20am that day, officers on duty on Middle Road, near White Hill, saw a car moving at relatively high speed.The officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who told the officers he didn’t have his drivers licence on him. Asked if he had been drinking, he admitted that he had “two or three”.He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he subsequently failed a breath test.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Matos $800, banning him from driving all vehicles for one year.
