Dunkley: Violence is not the right way to resolve conflict
Opposition Leader Michael Dunkley last night stressed his disapproval of violence as a means to resolving a conflict.
Mr. Dunkley was speaking after United Bermuda Party candidate Tillman Darrell admitted punching a man at the Young Man's Social Club, Pembroke, in self-defence earlier this month.
He said: "I do not support the use of violence as a way to resolve a conflict between individuals. This was conveyed to Mr. Darrell during our discussion of this matter.
"While it is at times easy to justify an act of violence based on trying circumstances we must do all we can as a community to lower the incidence of violence.
"I hope we can live and learn from each incident and make some real progress."
The victim suffered two cuts around his eyes, one of which needed six stitches.
Yesterday, The Royal Gazette reported that Mr. Dunkley said it was not his policy to prejudge anyone, and that it was important to let Police do their job.
Mr. Darrell will represent the UBP in the Pembroke South East constituency in the upcoming General Election.
