Dr. Brown hasn't lost his healing touch

Premier Dr. Ewart Brown jumped into action Monday while dining at the Heritage Court at the Hamilton Princess to assist former Dean of Arts and Sciences at the Bermuda College, Bertram Guishard. Yesterday, Dr. Brown visited Mr. Guishard at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to check his progress.

Premier Ewart Brown visited 79-year-old Bertram Guishard in hospital yesterday after helping him when he fell ill at a restaurant.

Mr. Guishard fell ill while at the Heritage Court restaurant at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Dr. Brown was at a nearby table and helped when it became clear Mr. Guishard was having health problems.

Dr. Brown said: "It's been years since I've been in practice, but all the instincts still kick in. I checked his vitals, looked for certain symptoms, and just tried to put him and his wife at ease.

"It was obviously very stressful for both of them because he really couldn't move — he was immobilised. All he could do was sit and put his head down on the table."

Hotel staff called an ambulance and the Premier relayed information to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital over the telephone. The incident happened on Monday and yesterday Dr. Brown called at the hospital to visit Mr. Guishard.
