Man locked up for cursing Police
A 42-year-old man was jailed for 150 days for assaulting a Police officer.
Dion Burgess, 42, of Devonshire, pleaded guilty to assaulting a Police officer when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
The court heard from Crown counsel Nicole Smith that while on patrol Police officers noticed an intoxicated Burgess causing a disturbance as he was trying to enter the Lemon Tree Cafe.
When approached by the Police, Burgess began shouting 'f***k you mother f***er. Go f***k yourself n****r, what you goin do'.
Police warned Burgess that he was causing a disturbance and Burgess continued 'f**k you'.
As Police were attempting to handcuff the defendant, he head butted the officer and hit him in the groin, the court was told.
In his defence, Burgess told the court: "The officer attacked me first. He punched me in my face. I acted in self-defence.
"I was defending myself, I don't want to end up in the hospital. I got arrested last week by the same Police officer."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked him if he was employed. Burgess reported he worked for Leslie Steede Construction.
The Magistrate asked him how was he drunk during working hours.
"I was on my lunch hour," said. The Magistrate sentenced Burgess to 150 days in prison.
