Car plunges into water

A motorist whose car plunged into water off Somerset Bridge yesterday has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The man failed an alco-analyser test at Hamilton Police Station, but it is not yet known how the vehicle ended up in the water.

Police received a report of a submerged car at Somerset Bridge dock at 6.55 a.m. A Police spokesman said: "Details of how the car, a silver Ford Focus, ended up overboard are unclear at this time. However the driver, a 31-year-old Sandys Parish man, was subsequently located and arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
