Traders get 'In the Zone'

Stakeholders in the NorthEast Hamilton Economic Empowerment Zone (EEZ) will be able to have their say on its future at a series of consultations held over the next two weeks.

The Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC) has given its full backing to the EEZ by sponsoring private consultations on its Draft Land Use Strategy and Design Guidelines.

Members of the Design Roundtable will be on hand to meet with individual EEZ stakeholders at 71 Victoria Street and Union Street from 11am to 7pm on Thursdays and Fridays for the next two weeks.

The Roundtable is the team of professionals, including architects, landscape designers and planners, responsible for developing the Land Use Strategy and Draft Guidelines for the revitalisation of North Hamilton.

"Over the past few weeks we have undertaken several initiatives to ensure adequate public consultation on the Draft Plan, including the Town Hall meeting on September 12 and seven smaller district meetings following that," said BSBDC general manager, Michelle Khaldun.

"The private consultation meetings planned for a location in the Zone is another way that makes it easier for area stakeholders to educate themselves on the recommendations and take the opportunity to provide their feedback prior to the Plan's completion."

"We encourage interested property and business owners, as well as residents of North East Hamilton to schedule a private consultation to ask their questions and provide the feedback that is important to them.

"It is vital to the success of this initiative that all stakeholders be involved in the process of developing the EEZ.

"Not everyone is comfortable speaking in front of a large crowd; some are more at ease discussing the initiative in a more private setting. Therefore, we are pleased to have a location In the Zone as part of a proactive approach to gain feedback, so that we are even more accessible to the people who have ideas and concerns."

This 'In the Zone' private consultation initiative comes as the latest in a series of attempts to get feedback from the business and property owners and residents of the area.

Continuing the Public Consultation phase of the EEZ, which was launched on September 12, the BSBDC has since held meetings for each of the 13 districts in the North East Hamilton area.
