<Bz22>Bromby climbs standings after shaky start in prestigious Miami regatta

Peter Bromby surged up the leaderboard at the Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta in Biscayne Bay, Florida yesterday.

Starting the day in 42nd position, Bermuda’s 2008 Olympic hopeful climbed a remarkable 25 places in the overall Star Class points standings to place himself in contention for top honours with two days of racing to go.

Yesterday saw Bromby and new crew member Bill McNiven score a bullet in the fourth race and then place ninth in the fifth to keep their hopes of victory alive.

The veteran skipper was then allowed to drop his worst finish after five rounds (35/OCS) which enabled him to surge into 17th spot among a fleet of 67 entries.

Bermuda’s sole entry in the Laser Class, Brett Wright, wasn’t as fortunate yesterday.

Wright slipped seven spots back to 77th after finishing 39th and 44th, but later discarded the latter score during the first of what is anticipated to be a two-drop series.

Laser Radial skippers Sara Lane Adderley and Katrina Williams, currently lying in 38th and 48th respectively, did not race yesterday.
