Robinson ruled out of Holland encounter
All rounder Jacobi Robinson has been ruled out of this week's four-day Intercontinental Cup clash with the Netherlands, national cricket coach Gus Logie confirmed yesterday.
Robinson, a late alternative for pacer Kevin Hurdle who is unavailable to tour Europe through work commitments, injured his right shoulder attempting to save a boundary during Bermuda's brief stopover in Denmark last week.
"It's a big blow because I think he adds all round value to the team. He is an individual who can become very explosive with the bat and one of those players who could have picked up more wickets and supported us in the bowling department as well," Logie said.
Robinson had further treatment administered to his injury yesterday, and was scheduled to undergo scans at the hospital to determine the full extent of any damage to his shoulder.
"The physio (Craig Brown) suspects he has a slight tear in the muscle in his right shoulder. But we are hopeful that he will be able to play in the two ODIs (next week)," Logie added.
Robinson arrived in Europe last week in solid form with both bat and ball. But with Bermuda's ranks already heavily depleted, the player's misfortunes have now stretched Logie's resources even thinner.
"We were looking forward to his all round presence," the Trinidadian said. "But it's unfortunate that he has been ruled out at this particular point in time."
Robinson's omission has now paved the way for pacer George O'Brien Jr. to make his first appearance on tour. O'Brien sat out last week's two losses to the Danes after receiving several stitches to a nasty head wound just prior to the team's departure for Europe.
"He responded well during our last training session (yesterday)," Logie pointed out. "And we are hopeful that he will be able to survive over the next four days."
