Canadian sailor rescued
A Canadian man who attempted to sail solo from Nova Scotia, Canada to Bermuda had to be rescued 350 miles off the coast of Cope Cod after engine and battery failure.
Jean Raymon Collin was navigating his 29-foot vessel, Grail Pilgrin, from Halifax in a southerly direction when the mechanical trouble occurred. He was rescued by the US Coast Guard on Saturday.
Mr. Collin called the Halifax Joint Rescue Coordination Centre on Thursday evening and reported that his engine had failed and that he was operating on battery power, according to a report in the Boston Globe newspaper.
A Canadian Coast Guard official said: "Due to fatigue and seasickness, (Mr. Collin) didn't feel he could handle it by himself any longer."
The Tahoma is expected in Boston on Saturday. A locator was placed on the Grail Pilgrin so that it can be tracked.
