Man was three times over the limit

A painter from St. George's fell off his motorbike while more than three times over the drink-drive limit. Basil Gibbons, 44, admitted to a charge of driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared at Magistrates' Court last week.

Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess told the court that Police were called to the crash on North Shore Road, Devonshire, just before midnight on March 11, 2007.

They found Gibbons lying by the side of the road, propped up against a wall. The officers noted that he was disorientated and smelled strongly of alcohol. A blood sample was taken from him, which showed 254 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 80 milligrams.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Gibbons $1,000 and banned him from driving for a year.
