Gun charges sent to Supreme Court

An American lawyer will be tried at Supreme Court on gun possession charges after a Magistrate committed the case to the higher court yesterday.

Gary Barket, 61, from Arkansas, is accused of possessing two guns and ammunition. Barket was leaving Bermuda for Newark, New Jersey, when he was screened at the airport on January 25.

A. 32 revolver, 6.35 mm semi-automatic and four rounds of ammunition were allegedly discovered in his garment bag. Barket has not entered a plea as yet, as the matter is one that can only be heard by the Supreme Court.

His $100,000 bail was extended by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner until he appears before that court for a plea hearing next month.
