SOMERS TAKES TO THE AIR

Somers the fledgling Bermuda Cahow launched himself into the air above Nonsuch Island in Castle Harbour on Wednesday night, as the Cahow rehabilitation programme started in the 1950s reached a special milestone. Somers is the first Cahow to have been born and hatched on the island in nearly 400 years. Jeremy Madeiros, the Government Conservation officer watched the bird take off from the nature reserve around 10.55 p.m. with an infra-red scope.
