BREAKING NEWS: Eastern Counties game up in the air

Eleventh hour talks will be held this evening at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club (BBCC) that will ultimately determine whether tomorrow’s opening round of the Eastern Counties Cup competition will go ahead as originally planned.

Earlier today The Royal Gazette revealed cup holders St. David’s County Cricket Club had rescinded their Eastern Counties Cricket Association (ECCA) membership and withdrawn from this year’s competition in protest at the ECCA decision to share proceeds from rented lots to all four participating clubs this year.

St. David's had been scheduled to play challengers Cleveland County tomorrow at Sea Breeze Oval.

Among those to be in attendance at this evening’s meeting at BCCC will be ECCA president Harold Millett, Minister for Works and Engineering Derrick Burgess along with ECCA representatives St. David’s, Bailey’s Bay, Flatts Victoria and Cleveland.

"We are working diligently to try and resolve this matter," Millett told The Royal Gazette. "This matter is not resolved and until all parties involved come together I cannot offer any more comment."

Earlier this week former St. David’s president and cricketer Millett told this newspaper that the controversial new policy had been agreed to in principle by ECCA members during a recent special meeting.
