“Am I going to resign? Absolutely not.”

That was the reaction from Premier Ewart Brown this afternoon as he faced the prospect of a no confidence vote in Parliament tomorrow.

He believes he retains the support of his party but acknowledged that his opponents view him as “somewhat vulnerable at the moment and they’re coming on strong”.

Asked if he is indeed vulnerable, Dr. Brown replied: “I don’t know about vulnerable, but I’m engaged in a fight and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

His remarks came as he answered questions over the controversy stirred up by his decision to allow four former terrorist suspects from Guantanamo Bay to move to Bermuda.

He had called the press conference to announce that American Airlines is upping its service from Miami from five times a week to daily. He remained bullish amid suggestions that the Guantanamo debate could negatively impact on tourist numbers.
