BREAKING NEWS- Walker storms thru to Semi
Local King Edward VII Gold Cup hopeful Blythe Walker continued his phenomenal form in Hamilton harbour today, overturning a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 win over American rival Brian Angel to advance through to tomorrow's semi finals.
Walker quickly found himself in arrears as Angel jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead in wet and shifty conditions in the island's capitol.
The former Olympian lost the opening match of the best of five series after struggling at the start where he incurred a penalty.
Things then went quickly from bad to worse in the second race as Walker again stumbled at the start, allowing Angel to record a comfortable win and place himself in what seemed a commanding position.
But the resilience which Walker and crew have exemplified over the past three-days again shone through as the Bermudian reeled off three successive wins to stun his American rival and move on to the last four.
Walker will now meet Swede Bjorn Hansen, the fifth ranked match racing skipper in the world, in tomorrow's semi-final.
In contrast, Bermuda's other Gold Cup hopeful Glenn Astwood bowed out of the regatta after losing 0-3 to Frenchman Mathieu Richard.
Richard, last year's Gold Cup runner up, will square off with Americas Cup winner Ed Baird in tomorro'w other semi final.
Defending Gold Cup Ian Williams was eliminated after failing to advance from the repechage.
