UAE 142 — Bermuda 98 for four

Fast bowler Kevin Hurdle and all rounder Janeiro Tucker shared nine-wickets between them to give Bermuda a slight edge on day one of their Intercontinental Cup match with United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai today.

Hurdle extended his overall haul on tour to 18 after taking six for 45 while Tucker provided good support by claiming three for 29.

Together the pair tormented the batsmen on a pitch offering lateral movement with pace ace Hurdle accounting for the last five UAE wickets to tumble as the hosts were dismissed in the 50th over for a modest total after racing to

42 without loss.

In reply, Bermuda suffered a late collapse during the day’s final session as early order bats Jason Simons (15) and James Celestine (nought) fell in the space of three balls to leave the tourists spiraling out of control at 85 for five.

But an unbroken fifth-wicket stand worth 13 runs so far between skipper Irving Romaine (eight) and deputy David Hemp (21) breathed much needed life in the innings before close of play, with the Islanders 44 runs shy of their hosts’ first innings total.

Earlier, Under 19 skipper Rodney Trott clubbed his way back into form with an aggressive 43 off 61 balls before falling seven- runs shy of a maiden Intercontinental Cup half century.
