Canada beats Bermuda again

Bermuda suffered their sixth successive one-day defeat on the current African tour as Canada beat them by three wickets with more than ten overs to spare.

Bermuda struggled to a total of 178 for nine in their allotted 50 overs in today's Tri-Series match against Canada at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

Having been beaten by the Canadians earlier this week by five wickets, Bermuda's prospects of turning the tables on their North American neighbours appeared slim after yet another woeful batting display.

But Bermuda's bowlers did well to take seven wickets with Dwayne Leverock taking two wickets for 21 runs off his allotted ten overs. Kevein Hurdle, back from injury, took three wickets, but was more expensive, conceding 52 runs off his ten overs.

Opener AM Samad was Canada's top scorer with 39 runs, but six batsmen got into double figures and Bermuda also gave up 30 extras, including 11 wides.

Earlier, Canada paceman Henry Osinde ripped the heart out of Bermuda's early order with three wickets in his first two overs, one of which was a maiden, and from 18 for three in the third over Gus Logie's men could never recover.

Dean Minors was caught in the slips off his first ball, Clay Smith went in identical fashion, having got off the mark with a towering six, and David Hemp was clean bowled for a duck on his third ball.

Saleem Mukuddem, so often Bermuda's saviour on this tour, compiled a patient 57, Irving Romaine made a useful 27 and Lionel Cann a typical quickfire 21, but after Osinde left the attack Bermuda were tied down by Canada's spinners.

Captain George Codrington picked up four for 33 while Kevin Sandher conceded just 26 runs off his 10 overs as did pace bowler Umar Bhatti, both claiming one wicket.

Canada need to score at 3.6 runs an over to achieve their second Tri-Series win of the week.
