Greenslade foiled by lack of wind
Joshua Greenslade?s hopes of launching a final day challenge to Danish rival Magnus Kaeldso were thwarted by the weather as a lack of wind prevented any further racing in this week?s XL Capital International Optimist regatta.
Bermuda teenager Greenslade went into yesterday?s last round of racing trailing the Dane by just seven points in a fleet of more than 50 Optimist sailors from around the globe.
But with little or no wind in the Great Sound, organisers were forced to send the fleet back to shore meaning that overall results after the 13th race on Tuesday determined the final outcome.
That left Kaeldso, who had set the pace from Sunday?s start, on top with 37 points, seven less than Greenslade.
Fifteen-year-old Kaeldso, who has travelled to three world championships during his eight years of racing, won three of the 13 races and Greenslade two.
In third place on 71 points was Denmark?s Mathias Svendson on 71 points followed by Bermuda?s James Anfossi on 78 and Jess Bonde, another Dane, in fifth on 83.
Bermuda?s Jordan Saints placed sixth with 97 points.
The regatta was being staged in Bermuda for the third straight year.
Prize presentations took place last night at the Bermuda Underwater Institute.
