Bascome brimming with pride

David Bascome has expressed great pride at being the first player signed by newly-formed US soccer team the Harrisburg City Islanders.

The Bermudian midfielder was unveiled last week by the Islanders who will debut in the USL Pro Soccer League next year.

The 33-year-old is renowned more for his skills on the indoor circuit having carved out a career with the Harrisburg Heat and latterly with the Baltimore Blast.

However, he will now aim to show that he still has what it takes to perform outdoors as well.

"This is a big step," the player said. "This kind of sinks deep. I don't look for a lot of things. I don't look to be the hero. I don't look for rewards. But when you look back and they've chosen to sign me first, it says something to me as a player."

The Pro Soccer League will consist of 12 teams and Harrisburg, who will play home games at the Skyline Sports Complex, will be in the Atlantic Division with the Long Island Rough Riders and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
