Blazers coach fumes over ?three minutes mystery time?

Boulevard coach John Rebello has lashed out over the officiating during his team?s controversial FA Cup loss to North Village at BAA Field on Sunday.

An angry Rebello yesterday broke silence, taking issue with two controversial decisions that went against Blazers and ultimately paved the way for Village to advance to the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition.

Boulevard led 2-1 after 90 minutes but Village equalised nearly five minutes into stoppage time with a goal from striker Mackie Crane that many, including Rebello, believed was offside.

Village then wrapped up the tie with another goal from Nakia Smith in extra-time.

Rebello contended that referee Anthony Mouchette had originally indicated to his linesman (Tracy Adams) there would only be two minutes of injury time added on.

The coach said he wanted to know ?where the other three minutes came from?.

?The referee (Mouchette) just allowed the game to continue until Village equalised and then blew the whistle as soon as we kicked off,? Rebello argued.

?Now what I can?t understand is if you tell your linesman there are two minutes of stoppage time left to play and then that turns into five . . . then where did the other three minutes come from? That?s the only argument and question I have.

?After the match I said, ?damn Mouchette . . . where did all of this injury time come from??

?I looked at the linesman and he gestured to me that it?s over. And really I don?t where the extra-time came from because when my clock indicated some five minutes had gone by I kept asking my myself ?when is this man going to blow the whistle???

Rebello described Village?s last-gasp equaliser in stoppage time as ?miles offside?.

?It wasn?t even like it was just us (Blazers bench) out there saying ?this guy was offside?,? he added. ?Village players and fans also admitted it and everybody who was there knew he (Crane) was offside and I just don?t understand how you cannot call the play because basically we are now out of a tournament we should still be in.

?People seem to take great pride in Boulevard losing and it has really got frustrating and all we are looking for is some fairness. But the goal was a mile offside.?

Still, putting his frustration aside, Rebello agreed that Boulevard should not have allowed victory to slip from their grasp.

?It?s our fault we lost the game,? the coach conceded. ?And we shouldn?t have lost it because you can?t leave your destiny in somebody else?s hands. You must control your own destiny.

?But it?s frustrating because we had the same thing happen to us the week before.?

Rebello, who coached now defunct Vasco da Gama to every major domestic title in the 1990s, was alluding to a December 12 Premier Division clash against Dandy Town at St.John?s Field where the Hornets stole a late point courtesy of a Kevin Hurdle strike two minutes from full-time.

He added: ?I don?t make a red, damn cent out of football. But all I?m looking for is some fairness out there because at the moment it seems as though the deck is stacked against us and we can?t even get an explanation from the referee.?

Referee Mouchette, meanwhile, defended his decisions but declined to comment on the matter when contacted by yesterday.
