Remembering Randy . . .
Next Wednesday marks the first anniversary of the death of Dandy Town full back Randy Swan who died five days after suffering massive head injuries in a two-vehicle accident in Southampton.
Swan, whose number 16 jersey has been retired, also represented North Village and took part in Bermuda?s 2006 World Cup preparations with the senior national squad.
A memorial match pitting Dandy Town against Dandy Town Roots is now played in Swan?s honour, while family, friends and former team-mates gathered last night at Western Stars Sports Club to celebrate what would have been the late footballer?s 25th birthday.
Club officials have set up the Randy Swan Memorial Scholarship Fund for members between the ages of 17 and 25 wishing to pursue any degree or certificate programme.
After winning last year?s inaugural Champions Cup, and more recently a fifth Martonmere Cup title, Hornets dedicated both achievements to the memory of their late colleague.
?His spirit will never die. Western Stars Sports Club is the home of champions and Randy was a winner. Without Randy the club has lost a very positive and motivated individual,? said Stars president Cal Blankendal, speaking by phone from the Cayman Islands yesterday.
