Forties stalwart Berry dies

One of Bermuda?s best known sports administrators, Roger Berry, has died at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer.

Remembered for his involvement with both the Commercial soccer and cricket leagues, Berry was an avid fan of all sports.

Originally involved with the old Bermudiana Hotel football club, he helped found Forties FC and the Forties cricket team, and served as a referee and umpire in both sports.

Close friend Dave Mutch said yesterday: ?Roger touched a lot of people in Bermuda sport. He was a little icon, always willing to help, always there to lend a hand.

?He?d suffered with his health in recent years, but he never lost his passion for sport.?

A lifelong supporter of English Premier League club, Sunderland, Berry arrived in Bermuda in the late 1960s.

He?s survived by wife Mary.
