Trio book ticket to Carifta
Three junior athletes secured their places in next year's Carifta Games with strong performances in the weekend's Bermuda Track and Field Association's mini-meet.
Matthew Spring qualified in both the 800 and the 3000 metres with runs of one minute 57.2 seconds and 9:32.9 respectively ? both personal bests for the youngster, who competed last year in Tobago.
Commonwealth Games contender Latroya Darell, who leapt 1.75 metres in the high jump, has also secured her place and will be looking to add to her medal count, having picked up two silvers last year.
Sprinter Tre Houston qualified for the 200 metres with a time of 22.3 seconds, a personal best.
Meanwhile in the KPMG Front Street Mile qualifiers, also held over the weekend, Michael Donawa and Victoria Fiddick were the fastest over the distance in the trials among the open division.
Fiddick, who finished in 5:40.7, led home a field of just eight females, who all automatically qualify for the January 13 event.
In the men's section, the top 20 out of the 31 competitors secured a place in the popular Friday night event, with Donawa securing the best time of 4:23.0 closely followed by Lamont Marshall, Chayce Smith and 2004 winner Sheldon Thompson.
