Pierce hoping for quick recovery
Bermudian NFL star Antonio Pierce was carted off in the first quarter victory over the Philadephia Eagles on Sunday with a damaged ankle and could miss the next Giant step towards the play-offs.
Pierce?s New York Giants moved to 9-4 with their 26-23 overtime win over the divisional champions and could be just a couple of weeks away from securing a spot in the post-season.
The $33 million Pierce, who scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery the previous week in a victory over the Dallas Cowboys, is now questionable for Saturday?s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but is promising to be back for the clash with his former club on Christmas Eve.
?I?ll be fine, but you never know,? Pierce said from the locker room afterwards.
?I might not be back this week, but I?ll be back by that Washington game (on December 24). I wouldn?t miss that.?
Due to the injury, Pierce recorded just two tackles in the game, moving him to a team-high 99 for the season, sixth in the NFC.
?The one thing that I?m most proud of is that we had a lot of adversity,? said coach Tom Coughlin, who lost three other starters aside from Pierce during the tense victory over their divisional rivals.
?Until someone (a reporter) brought it up last week, we had pretty much a season where we started and finished games with guys that have been the starters. That wasn?t the case in this game.?
The Giants remain top of the NFC East, a game ahead of the Cowboys with a tough December ahead of them with games against the Chiefs, the Redskins and then what should be a straightforward final clash with Oakland on New Year?s Eve.
