Goater sets sights on Gills

Shaun Goater will look to consolidate his position as the most lethal striker in the First Division when Manchester City take on Gillingham today.

Goater netted his 17th of the season on Wednesday in the 3-0 away victory at Barnsley and he will be hoping to add to his tally at Maine Road.

City are unbeaten in three games and manager Kevin Keegan is hoping that statistic will be the start of a run to galvanise the Blues.

"We have to pick up points away from home as we did at Barnsley on Wednesday night. So far we have given away points and if I am honest we have disappointed ourselves, but the performance against Barnsley was certainly good enough for me and one to build on," he said.

Today's fixtures represent a great opportunity to improve City's League position with two of the clubs above them playing each other while the other two are both playing away from home.

League leaders Wolves, seven points ahead of City, travel to fourth-placed Norwich, while second-placed Coventry are at Millwall and Crystal Palace in third travel to Walsall. Gillingham, meanwhile, come to Maine Road having lost their last four games.

Goater's fellow Bermudian, Kyle Lightbourne is hoping to return to action for Macclesfield today after missing the last four games through injury.
