Cougars midfielder slapped with six-game ban

Only days after having the bans of team-mates Heys Wolfe and Raymond Beach lifted, Devonshire Cougars? Kori Goddard has landed himself in hot water with Bermuda Football Association.

The midfielder has been slapped with a six-game suspension and one-year probation for his involvement in an ugly incident at Bernard Park on October 3 that occurred after the player had been sent off along with North Village veteran striker Damon Wade.

Goddard and Wade were both red carded for exchanging blows after challenging for a loose ball in the 55th minute of play. It was an altercation which escalated with Goddard?s team-mate, ?keeper Ricardo Brangman, joining the fray as it eventually spilled over into the stands.

While Goddard bore the full brunt of the BFA disciplinary committee?s wrath, Wade received a four-game suspension.

Brangman was put on a one-year probation for his involvement in the incident that occurred on the opening day of the 2004-05 season.

It is also understood that Goddard received an additional two-game ban from officials at Devonshire Recreation Club who dealt with the matter internally before the association?s disciplinary hearing.

During the 2002-03 season, the Cougars midfielder sparked a long drawn-out battle between his club and the association after it was discovered he had featured in an FA Cup semi-final against Prospect while under suspension.

Goddard was supposed to have sat out the match after accumulating three yellow cards.

After much public wrangling, Cougars forfeited a 5-2 hammering of First Division minnows Prospect who were then trounced by Village in the final.

Goddard has so far sat out three matches while Wade has missed two. The Cougars player won?t be eligible to play until November 30 while Wade will miss Village?s next two Premier Division clashes against Boulevard and Somerset Trojans.

Also appearing before the BFA disciplinary committee were Boulevard player Mikre Place who was slapped with a four-match ban and one-year probation for threatening the referee during a match against Cougars last March while Southampton Rangers midfielder Travis Wilkinson was handed a two-match suspension for lashing out against Goddard during a Martonmere Cup Group B clash involving Rangers and Cougars at BAA Field.

However, Wilkinson has already served out the ban and is free to rejoin his team-mates for this weekend?s FA Cup clash against Commercial B Division outfit St.George?s All-Stars at Wellington Oval.
