Village in danger of early cup exit
Devonshire Cougars and North Village are both facing elimination from the Martonmere Cup competition as it moves for the first time in several years to Somerset Cricket Club tonight.
The Reds were narrowly defeated by a Kyle Lightbourne inspired PHC Zebras just over a week ago, and a loss tonight against defending cup holders Dandy Town would effectively bundle them out of the competition.
Cougars, likewise, are in desperate need of an outright win that would give their own cup hopes a welcoming shot in the arm.
Town ended Village?s four-year Charity Cup reign late last month when the two urban giants last met.
However, Village will be looking to avenge that result and keep their bid for an eighth Martonmere Cup title alive in tonight?s second match of a scheduled double-header in the West End.
In contrast, Town will attempt to rebound from Sunday?s shock home league defeat to Zebras and also prove that last month?s Charity win over Village was no fluke.
Cougars, meanwhile, will also be fighting off the ropes against a Boulevard outfit that thumped Paget Lions 9-1 in their opening league game on Sunday.
Inspired Blazers will no doubt want to showcase their newly-acquired attacking form under the floodlights in tonight?s curtain raiser (7 p.m.).
