King strikes gold again
Arantxa King continues to fly high ? literally.
Less than two weeks after winning the IAAF World Youth Championships long jump title, the Bermudian added the Pan American Junior Athletics gold in the same event to her growing medal collection on Saturday.
Once again it was the third leap which proved decisive for the 15-year-old in Windsor, Canada, as she landed 6.21 metres into the sandpit during the final.
That was enough to hold off the challenge of American Gayle Hunter (6.15 metres) and Trinidad and Tobago's Rhonda Watkins (6.05 metres) who took silver and bronze respectively.
USA-based King, who has qualified for next year's Commonwealth Games and World Juniors, won the World Youth title on July 17 in Morocco with a personal best of 6.39 metres as well as the Carifta Games gold medal for Under-17 Girls long jump last Easter in Tobago.
