St.George?s won the battle of the relegated teams against tenants Cleveland at Wellington Oval.

Asked to score 165 for victory in 25 overs, Cleveland ultimately fell short with veteran Carlton Smith (45) and Tashae Tucker (21) left stranded at the crease when the overs ran out.

Brother-in-laws Herbie Bascome and Gregg Foggo led the St.George?s bowling, each grasping two wickets for 22 runs while Travis Smith and player/coach George Cannonier ? coming out of retirement ? took one apiece.

Earlier, St.George?s posted a challenging total in their innings of a match reduced due to morning rains with Sinclair Gibbons cracking 65 runs off 44 balls in 89 minutes. Skipper Bascome added 29, Foggo 20 and Brian Phipps 21.

Tamori Tucker led the Cleveland bowling with four for 49 off five overs.

Western Stars pair Hasan Durham and Saleem Mukuddem tuned up for Cup Match with strong showings in a 77-run win over Bailey?s Bay at Sea Breeze Oval.

Mukuddem scored 57 in Stars total of 198 off 35 overs and then returned to capture four for 16 from 5.2 overs while captain Durham took four for 15 from seven overs with three maidens. Jacobi Robinson took two for 22 from five overs.

Batting for Bay, Jermaine Warner scored 43, Dennis Pilgrim 24 not out and Jermaine Outerbridge 18.
