Bermuda?s Under 19 youth squad suffered their second defeat to Dominica in seven days and third overall at the Sir Gary Sobers Schools Tournament in Barbados yesterday.
The local team?s three-game win streak was brought to a screeching halt as their Caribbean opponents came away victorious by 53 runs.
Bermuda won the toss and sent Dominica in to bat on a moist pitch and the decision appeared to be paying dividends as their opponents were reeling at 60 for five after 21 overs.
But thanks to a top knock of 42 by Gavin Bruno Bermuda?s opponents reached a respectable 136, their final wicket falling on the very last delivery of the innings.
Medium pacer Justin Pitcher was the pick of the local bowling, claiming four for 33 off seven overs while leg break spinner Jade? Foggo took three for 21 off five overs. Bailey?s Bay duo Kearon and Rodney Trott claimed one wicket each.
Asked to score at 3.4 runs per over, Bermuda also found themselves in early trouble at 50 for five after 15 overs with the likes of in-form skipper Oronde Bascome and Rodney Trott back in the pavilion cheaply.
But despite spirited knocks from Stephen Bremar Jr (14), Ramen Wijerwardena (12) and Pitcher (13), Bermuda for were dismissed for 83 in 26.2 overs.
No other local batsmen managed to reach double figures while Dominica only had to rely on two bowlers to get the job done. Spinner Reggie Frederick led the way with five for 15 and pacer Barrington Charles claimed five for 34.
Bermuda, who have now compiled a record of three wins and three losses, are scheduled to take on a Barbados youth select today.
Yesterday?s washed out Mini Cup Match scheduled for Somerset Cricket Club has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, July 26 at Devonshire Recreation Club.
