IOD trio head for Worlds
Three sailing teams will represent Bermuda next week at the prestigious International One Design World Championships in Marblehead Massachusetts.
There will be 21 teams, representing Norway, Sweden, Scotland, Bermuda, and the east and west coasts of the USA at the event between June 1 and 7.
This regatta represents the 2001 World Championships originally scheduled for last September but postponed due to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre.
Crewing for Eugene (Penny) Simmons, the four-time defending world champion, will be Lars Simons - filling in for a injured Sacha Simmons - Steven King, D'Arcy Betschart and Peter Terceira. Crewing for Jordy Walker, the 2001 Bermuda IOD Champion, will be Robert Zuill, Matthew Cairney, Stewart Nisbet and Todd White. Missing from Walker's team this year will be veteran Harry Powell.
Crewing for Craig Davis will be Kim Daniels, Terry Hart, Lisa Siese and Laura Kempe.
The International One Design has a long history of sailing in Bermuda, spanning nearly 65 years.
The fleet has an active racing schedule including over 30 events a year.
The 2002 World Championships will be held in Bermuda between September 15 and 20.
