Steede bowls them over

St. George's Cricket Club medium pace bowler Ryan Steede turned in one of his best bowling spells last week since leaving for England last month to join Atherstone Town Cricket Club.

The player snatched two wickets for a mere nine runs off five overs to help lead his team to a 31-run victory over Alderman Smith.

The scores were Alderman 79-9 off 18 overs; Atherstone 110-3 off 18 overs.

Steede, who opened the bowling with Joe Begley, who took one for 22 off five overs, finished with the team's second best bowling figures with spinner Ian Niblock's three for 18 off just four overs being the highlight.

Bermuda veteran Noel Gibbons, who temporary holds down the player-coach job at Atherstone, scored 16 and was the team's third highest scorer behind openers Adam Gough on 59 and Dave Blower on 22.

The win was a boost for Atherstone who were coming off a bitter defeat to Hinckley Amateurs the previous week.
