Cyclist Kris Hedges romped to victory in the final instalment of the NCCA championships at the weekend.
The Island rider, who competes for Maryland's Johns Hopkins University, took the Division Two honours in the road race event held just outside San Francisco.
The seven lap race was thinned out early on as the climbing and a hard early tempo cut the field in half. This suited Hedges - third in the earlier criterium and also part of the time trial champion team - and he soloed in for the win.
"Coming through the feed zone some guys got antsy and picked it up, but I attacked on the downhill," he told cyclingnews.com. "I had about 20 seconds and a Dartmouth rider tried to come across but I didn't want to wait for him so I just kept it rolling."
